We Are
Born Bendy
At Born Bendy, we understand what it’s like to be hypermobile because we live it. Dr. Calla Selfridge, DPT, OCS a seasoned Physical Therapist and former Division 1 college swimmer, and Coach Amanda Hershberg, NBC-HWC, CPT, RYT, a Certified Personal Trainer and Therapeutic Exercise Specialist, have walked the path of hypermobility ourselves—and we've helped hundreds of other hypermobile individuals do the same. Through years of working with hypermobile clients, we've learned not only about the science and principles behind effective training, but also about the unique challenges that hypermobile bodies face.
Hypermobility affects up to 57% of the population, but despite its prevalence, many trainers and coaches aren’t equipped with the tools or understanding to help hypermobile individuals move confidently and safely. That’s where Born Bendy comes in. Our goal is simple: to empower fitness professionals with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to confidently train and support hypermobile clients.
Hypermobility doesn’t mean broken. We are firm believers that people with hypermobility can achieve strength, mobility, and functionality. But here's the thing: It takes a thoughtful, intentional approach. Hypermobile bodies often experience joint instability, pain, and a higher risk of injury—challenges that aren’t always obvious on the surface. That’s why we don’t just focus on the science behind hypermobility; we also teach you how to approach training with empathy, understanding, and a deep respect for the unique needs of your clients.
Through our courses, we help trainers and coaches understand how to assess hypermobility, modify exercises, and apply the right strategies to help clients build strength and confidence. We also teach you how to recognize the signs that a hypermobile body is under stress, and how to adjust your training to support both short-term recovery and long-term performance goals.
For us, it’s personal. Amanda’s own journey with hypermobility has been transformative—not only in her own training, but in how she coaches others. Her daughters are hypermobile, too, and one went from chronic shoulder subluxations to strong, confident swimming performance using the same methods we teach. The approach we’ve developed combines the science of hypermobility with real-world experience, allowing you to help your clients build lasting strength and movement patterns that work for their bodies.
Born Bendy isn’t just about education—it’s about creating a community of trainers and coaches who feel empowered to work with hypermobile individuals, understanding both the science and the lived experience. Whether your clients are athletes, everyday movers, or individuals navigating pain, we want you to feel equipped and confident in supporting them every step of the way.
If you’re ready to expand your knowledge and skillset while making a real difference in the lives of hypermobile individuals, Born Bendy is here to guide you. Let’s build strong, confident, and empowered movement together.
